GFWC Monday Club of Hamilton hosted a Spring luncheon with GFWC Chillicothe Culture Club and GFWC Tuesday Study Club of Braymer as guests. Beverly Graham from GFWC Monday Club presented a program on the Oregon Trail Quilt she had made. A factious journal (taken from several authentic accounts) written by a woman traveling by wagon train to Oregon told of the significance of each part of the quilt she designed as she traveled west. Examples are the five eight-sided stars in the center represent the five states they would travel through, flowers seen along the trail, trees where a dear friend was buried, purple mountains and green trees (at bottom) and the three stars in the upper left hand corner represent her children who would start a new life in the west. The journal not only included the heartache but the humor of wagon train life like frying bacon and making pancakes on a shovel.
